Two gallery shows of wild rice photography in the Twin Cities area have resulted in his images being used by the Science Museum of Minnesota in a exhibit on the Mississippi River and the Cass County Historical Society. One of Bill's wild rice images was named Best of Show in the Lake Country Journal magazine contest, Portraits 2000.

Bill started out as the staff photographer for In-Fisherman. During these formative years
he focused on all aspects of photographing fish, including still photos, film and video. He
set up the in-house darkroom and helped establish the fishing photograph as an educational
tool. His next stop was Creative Publishing International, where he continued to develop a
unique eye for live-action sporting photography especially in the freshwater fishing arena.
Recreating and capturing freshwater environments in a glass-sided photography tank resulted in stunning
images of trout, pan fish, bass and walleye. His extensive work “on location” during these years
honed and developed a unique talent for explosive, live action photography including spectacular
fish jumps, dramatic landing shots and beautiful scenics that capture the excitement and
serenity of sport fishing. As a cinema photographer, Bill has filmed and produced product
commercials for Rapala, In-Fisherman television and shot film for National Geographic.
Bill’s current passion is documentary-style still-photo essays, surrounding the topic of foraging for edibles from the wild. His Native American wild ricing series has captured the entire cycle of ricing from dormant beds under the ice to harvesting, finishing and to the table, Bill’s images are a comprehensive record of a unique lifestyle and life cycle. Images from this photo series have been featured in two Twin Cities (MN) gallery exhibits. bill@blpstudio.com |
